If you are familiar with my others blogs, This Quiet Fire and From Basin Street to Birdland, my passion for the history and tradition of jazz is hopefully apparent. In an effort to focus my attention on a topic for which I am reverent, I decided to create a blog that is solely dedicated to the history of jazz piano.
Since approaching the music in a diachronic fashion might be a little too cumbersome, I will probably address one pianist at a time, while attempting to make connections between previous and subsequent musicians.
The title of this blog, Handful of Keys, comes from a Fats Waller tune of the same name; consequently, I thought it fitting to start our exploration with the man himself.
I hope you enjoy it!
